Requiem for (our) Mother Natures
Interning with Siobhan Arnold Studio
About
Requiem for (our) Mother Natures is an installation which sheds light on the identities of Women and Mothers through the symbolic physiology represented within the flowers relating to females in coded ways. Amid the pandemic, the exhibit also reflects mourning where the material used was plastic where it does not die naturally and remains far beyond its shelf life. The timely process of creating each flower with used materials is also touching on the humans collective impact destroying Mother Nature and challenging the stereotypical norm of where women's roles are placed in society.

Through the tedious process of sewing the peonies flower petals together, I have developed a more comfortable statue mending and manipulating pre-existing materials. I plan to further incorporate these learning values while engaging with The Re-Use Project and personally while creating.
The installation process was extremely insightful to attend in person aiding with the suspension of the flowers. Each flower hangs individually, yet in relation to the different surrounding flowers where Siobhan and Meagan emphasized on the importance of intention when making each placement, giving time to contemplate and further take action.
